Our Sustainable Commitments

Sustainable actions and goals we hold ourselves to

"We’re committed to sustainable practices that limit our environmental footprint, and have been making more eco-conscious decisions since day one. We recognise the fashion industry urgently needs to address its impact on the climate crisis, and at KLAYD we make this a priority.

Waste-reducing production protocols are a big focus for us, which is why we use our leftover fabric to make scrunchies, headbands and reusable tote bags. We also pride ourselves on using materials that are more eco-friendly or recycled.

Having seen firsthand the effects of deforestation caused by industrialisation, it’s important to us that we give back and support environmental organisations. We launched One KLAYD, One Tree in partnership with LindungiHutan to ensure a new tree is planted in Indonesia for every KLAYD item sold. We’re on a journey to continually innovate and improve - year after year, drop after drop - and we’d love for you to join us."

OUR ACTIONS

01 | Materials

Our COMFORT collection is crafted from 94% Lenzing™ Ecovero™. This biodegradable material is made from wood pulp from certified eco-responsible and controlled sources via a fully traceable manufacturing process.

Our KLAY line is made from 75% Recycled Polyester from plastics, which supports the reduction of waste in landfills and oceans.

02 | Packaging

Our products are packaged in 100% biodegradable and compostable cassava bags. This
reduces the use of plastic and supports the cassava farming economy in Indonesia.

To reduce our carbon footprint, we use biodegradable boxes made in the UK from 100% recycled materials and non-toxic, water-based ink.

Our reusable tote bags are crafted entirely from unused KLAYD fabrics to limit waste.

03 | Working Practices

We’re committed to ensuring fair and inclusive working practices for our team in the UK and Indonesia, and we have a zero-tolerance policy for child labour, forced labour or illegal employment. Our HR team carries out monthly audits in our factories and warehouses to ensure our standards of hygiene, safety and fair working hours are met.

Employees are also provided with additional benefits such as health insurance and pension contributions as standard, bonus schemes, daily meals and drinks, sponsorship for education programs, housing and transportation for those who need it.

04 | Factories & Warehouses

To limit waste, leftover fabric is used to make scrunchies, headbands and reusable tote bags - and anything that doesn’t quite make the grade is repurposed as household wipes.

In the UK, we work with delivery partners that support our sustainability ambitions by using alternative fuel vehicles and implementing waste-reduction protocols.

OUR PROMISES

We believe in a more sustainable approach to shopping: buy well, wear often, enjoy for seasons to come. All of our pieces are made to last, in classic colours and silhouettes you’ll want to wear again and again.

We operate with a responsible production model, without overproduction and flash sales - keeping our collections at the most accessible price, year round. We occasionally offer small discounts to our community to celebrate special milestones, but never to encourage excessive purchasing.

One KLAYD, One Tree is a partnership between KLAYD and Indonesian crowd planting organisation LindungiHutan. We’re proud of our heritage and want to support LindungiHutan’s efforts in empowering local farmers and reducing the impact of deforestation, so for every KLAYD item purchased, one tree will be planted. Learn more about this initiative here.

We have partnered with Waste4Change, who provide more ethical and responsible waste management solutions in Indonesia, aiming to reduce the amount of rubbish sent to landfills. They specialise in advanced waste sorting, recycling, and proper disposal methods, helping to minimise the environmental impact.

Improperly managed municipal waste in Indonesia not only harms people’s health and the environment but also leads to significant material value loss. To address this, Waste4Change convert waste into alternative fuels as a sustainable solution. By doing so, they reduce reliance on harmful fuels like coal, kerosene, and gasoline, which are known to cause environmental damage.

We've integrated these practices into our operations, educated local communities on responsible waste management, and ensured transparency in waste processing and recycling outcomes, all in line with our commitment to long-term sustainability and reducing our ecological footprint.

OUR GOALS

We’re committed to adopting new measures that will lessen our environmental impact even further. We’ve set ourselves goals around continually improving the quality of our designs, increasing the percentage of eco-friendly materials used in our collections and reducing the carbon footprint of our production processes.

One KLAYD, One Tree is just the start of our contribution to social and community projects. As part of our commitment to give back, our team is focused on building relationships with like-minded organisations in the UK. In 2024, we pledge to donate between 5-10% of our sales revenue to a different charity each month - keep an eye on our Instagram account for updates.
